Menolly

🦎Menolly runs away at a much younger age, and stays for much longer in caves with her fire lizards as lone company. Basically an excuse for feral!Menolly.

Maybe even mute!Menolly (apart from music) as the empathic link she has with her lizards is enough to communicate with them. (The Weyr and Robinson still want the singing feral child though :3)

🦎Alternatively, she never succeeds in running away, and when Robinson goes in search of the mysterious ’apprentice’, it is to find a much more broken child.

🦎The thousands shenanigans seven mischievous singing fire lizards might get into, and their relationships with the people of Harper Hall

🦎The mental link with fire lizards is much more primitive than dragon. A human mind is not made for one, much less seven. Somehow, Menolly begins to wake less and less in her own body, dreaming of flying in the sky and in between. Or alternatively, she just one day straight up wakes up in one of the fire lizard body (and the fire lizard wake up in hers, body switch style?)

🦎Darker version: During her time in the cave, Menolly dies (starving, due to the threads, a sickness, something else?). But she does not. Her consciousness lives through the seven lizards she bonded with.

Lessa

✨️Anything with Fax’s visit at Ruatha (and her following meeting with F’lar), because her making a fool out of everyone for her revenge and succeeding in manipulating almost till the end (and also failing to entirely do so without F’lar noticing) is one of my favorite moments. Can mix it with an au (soulmates au?) or canon divergence or smthg.

✨️The link with dragons works in mysterious ways. Some dragonriders grow scales after impressing. Some grow claws. Lessa grows large, blinding golden wings. (She yearn for nothing more than the sky)

doesn’t have to be Lessa, can be any other character listed in the relationship above, tbh

✨️ is much more violent in enforcing his ’male’ authority over Lessa and the Weyr, and decide to lock her up until Ramoth first flight. Or try to. Her and Ramoth (possibly with some mischievous help) develop incredible escape artist skills.

✨️Eldritch vibes. Time and space works in strange ways in the Between. Lessa doesn’t directly land 400 years into the past / she arrives at her destination, but changed. Nothing will ever be like before.

✨️F’lar and Lessa dynamic, both of them being bickering stubborn idiots caring too much and reckless with their life (although that might be mostly Lessa xd). Idk I love their dynamic. One being angry at the other because worried?

🐲What happens to the mental link between a dragon and their human if they are far appart (on the other side of the planet by exemple). What if they are separated by time (by exemple because Lessa had to ride / was forced (kidnapped?) to ride another dragon with their rider ’elsewhere’)

🐲A much darker AU where after the long years without the red star, since dragons are not necessary for fighting the Threads anymore, Lords decide to use them for their own wars by taking the humans they impress on as hostage. (What happens to F’lar and F’nor growing up in that system then? How does Lessa come into play- is she caught by Fax at Ruatha?)

🐲What if, desperate for their rider not to die, one of the dragon wrapped their mind around theirs— the rider’s body die, but the consciousness does not, leaving on as some kind of mental leech in the dragon mind (and maybe being able to be put into one of the dead eggs like Ruths’, thus reborn as a dragon?). Their rider is ’alive’ in a weird way, so the dragon doesn’t jump to die in between— to everyone’s horror as such a twisting of life itself is taboo. (Living without a body inside a dragon’s mind can be rather… traumatic)

Maybe if it’s Lessa, it might have been possible thanks to the link she also has with all of the dragons, the whole colony having helped in trapping her in Ramoth’ consciousness.

👾 One day (before it all), Seyonne’s wings get stuck on him even after he defeated the demon and left the mind-space. The Ezzarians reject him for that.

👾 It’s not good for an Ezzarian to be kept away from his magic for so long. If Seyonne is blocked away from his magic, his magic will come to find him. (By the time Aleksander meets him, he is already on the verge of death? Slow body eldritch transformation? Surrounding demons have a higher likelihood of possessing people around, attracted by his ’wanting’ smell? His wings grow on his slave body, Seyonne keeps removing them but they grow back, until Aleksander discovers what he hid?)

<i>What would a young, curious Madonaï do in the world?</i>

Nyel is dying. He doesn’t have time to complete Seyonne’s transformation into a Madonaï. A problem arises (as he dies in the middle of the enchantment), and Seyonne / Valdis loses his memory – only vague sensations and fragments of memories remaining. He wakes up (or never loses consciousness), taught that his name is ’Valdis’, and that he is a Madonaï.

With no prisoner (Nyel dead), the fortress falls.

He fears the now-unknown feelings that the voice stirs in him. He spreads his wings and flies away.</blockquote>

Kasparian finds him later and takes him in, becoming a reluctant mentor to Seyonne / Valdis, but only speaks to him about Nyel – which means Seyonne/Valdis doesn’t remember anything non-Madonaï, and only knows of his ’Valdis’ self.

A year later, Seyonne / Valdis learnt enough about his Madonaï nature from Kasparian to explore the human world. As was Nyel’s last will, he searches for other humans / sentient beings, worthy of becoming Madonaï.

Aleksander and Seyonne ’dance’, like the Ezzarian and the Demons have danced so many times before in their mindscapes.

(his promise was to kill Seyonne were he to become a monster)

Seyonne/Valdis play-fight with Aleksander, but never finishes him off (a pang in his chest, a vague memory stops him. He doesn’t understand. He doesn’t remember.)

Later, Seyonne/Valdis, guided by instincts and memory fragments, visits Evan in the form of a falcon to try to understand the un-Madonaï feelings bubbling in his chest (with Nyel’s early death, his transformation was never entirely complete).

Seyonne/Valdis change his mind and beat his wings to fly away, filled anewed with fear and uncomfortable feelings that Elinor’s voice makes bloom in his chest.

"Wait!"

Still, he can’t help but be intrigued. He wants to understand. So he stays to listen and circles above, curious about what the human has to say.</blockquote>

Aleksander and Seyonne/Valdis fight again. This time, Aleksander throws down his sword.

Forgotten words escape Seyonne/Valdis mouth.

"I am... my father, and his father before him..."

"Seyonne!?"

Hope illuminates Aleksander’s face. Grief swallows Seyonne/Valdis chest as he knows his answer will soon drown that light. The name has the empty familiarity of an old shoe that doesn’t fit anymore.

"Who is Seyonne? I am Valdis. I am Madonaï."

"You were human!"

"Could it be that I know you... from before?" He shakes his head, scattering away the un-madonaï feelings. "No. I remember nothing from before. Since I’ve known you, you’ve tried to kill me – like most humans.

 

Temeraire

🐉Laurence’s Diary To Getting Captured🐉

So, I found some ’diary’ fics out there, and they were hilarious. Since I also love the captured | prisoner trope…

This would be either Laurence’s or Temeraire’s diary of Laurence being captured | taken hostage | taken away from Temeraire. The diary can show a canon divergence or unrealistic thing as well!

Exemples:

Entry X - 12:64 (by Temeraire)

Today some French soldiers attacked us.

They tried to kill Laurence and bring me to the Emperor. Which is, not nice.

One time in their grasp was enough. They suck. 0/10.

They won’t try to kill anyone now.

Temeraire is looking weirdly at me. He has been staring at my back when he thought I wasn’t looking for the whole day.

I hope those indigenous dragons didn’t give him any strange idea.

It is said that the Chinese emperor barely looks human. (He is scared. He refuse to admit it- it’s easier to deny and hide the speed of the changes, and the sick feeling growing in his guts)).

(Other examples the change could be: The imprint attachment go both ways, telepathic link, wings and scale grow, sickness if the human and dragon are apart, immortality matching the dragon lifetime, etc)

🐉Book 5 spoiler. Laurence never manages to bring back the dragon’s sickness antidote (the mushrooms) back to England (one moment too long of hesitation? An unexpected obstacle?)

It destroys him.

Vorkosigan Saga

I tried to order the prompts by the canon divergence timeline in the books. It’s not exact.

🛸 Growing up on a planet where handicap is seen as a kill order is far from easy. What if, on a trip through Barrayar fields (planned by vorkosigan grandpa?), Miles finds himself in the middle of such thinking villagers? There is nothing scarier than an angry mob denying your right to existence.

🛸 Unsurprisingly, standing naked in the freezing cold is a great way to get hypothermia. Or, Miles gets much worse consequences from his participation in the crew punishment while being stationed at the pole.

🛸 Miles breaks a bone at the worst possible timing.

🛸 The Cetagandan are grateful to Miles, but they also can't let him go with the imperial secrets he now knows. As a solution, they make him theirs / one of them (brainwashing, body modification, just trapping him somewhere? The possibilities are vast as they are genius geneticists after all~)

🛸 Somehow, Miles finds himself as the main symbol of a revolution against Gregor. One he doesn’t want to lead, much less to win, but might not have a choice to. Who knows how he got there.

🛸 This time, no amount of bluff will get Miles out of the trouble he landed himself in. But perhaps someone unexpected can.

🛸 Miles gets captured in Jackson space (or elsewhere) and experimented on. (By one of the organisations we know? By one we never heard about before?). Body modifications ensue.

Bonus: he gets wings bcs yes i am obsessed.

🛸 All the ways Miles tried and succeeded or failed in hiding his new medical conditions (the despairing spiral of a new reality (body) that stand in your way, of trying again and again and yet finding this time it is not enough, because the solution simply does not exist)

Bonus: Canon divergence as the game of lies is shorter or longer than canon, and is revealed in a quite different way.

The count of montecristo

I’ve read the book and seen the 2024 movie (which I advise bcs really it’s a masterpiece, and the music is just perfect. Also great found family content), but I’m open to content from any adaptation!

🎭 Bonapartiste Edmond Dantès: When Napoleon comes back for the Hundred Days, republicains assault If Castle to free the prisoners here- among which, Edmond Dantes and Abbé Faria.

🎭 Edmond drowns at sea (at any moment of canon ). He escape the adventure… different (transformed into a sea creature / a merman / immortal cursed / saved by a new sea ally? )

🎭 Mercedes disagree with ‘the count of montecristo’ poor self care (lack of eating and sleeping ). She decides to do everything in her power to fix that (including low blow ), now matter how much Edmond refuses anything from her hand and denies knowing her.

🎭 Edmond’s whole plot get revealed before he can bring it to an end - and the police show up in front of the manor to arrest ‘the count of montecristo’ (Bonus: twist it into a crack fic )

🎭 Amnesia. During his arrest, Edmond Dantès takes a blow to his head and loses his memories.

Without them, he is no threat. Without them, there is no reason to send him to If castle anymore.

🎭 Winged soulmates Au

Au where everyone is born with wings. The color of your feathers are an indication of the bonds you make throughout life platonic soulmates style. When people get close to each other, the original wing color mixes.

A few of Mercedes primaries are dark blue, like Edmond's. He has a few bright red feathers amidst the blue : Mercedes’ trace on his soul.

After getting arrested, one of Edmond's comforts was the red feathers on his blue wings. Light reached properly the bottom of his cell only a few hours a day for him to see them. As long as Mercedes red was there, he could keep hope to reunite with her.

Edmond escapes. He plans his revenge. He searches for Mercedes.

Only, when the Count of Montecristo finally sees Mercedes from afar, for the first time again after years in a cell, there isn't a single hint of blue nestled in her scarlet wingspan. There is just Fernand's green.

In order to ensure no one recognise him, Edmond dyes Edmond Dantès’ blue into the Count of Montecristo's black. The count's wings are pure ink, devoid of any trace of color, of any taint from relationships (Edmond will not allow himself such a weakness again). But safely hidden below this black paint… some colors do exist in hiding: from Haydee and André (if only they knew it~ not that Edmond would ever tell them).

The truth, which Edmond doesn't know, is that Mercedes also dyes her feathers. She's been painting her few blue feathers into scarlet for years- because wearing the mark of an arrested man attracted uncomfortable attention, and excited Fernand's jealousy.

🎭 Edmond and Abbé Faria manage to escape the prison together. Now, what influence will Faria have on Edmond’s revenge wishes? (And his absurd self care too tbh XD)

🎭 Vampire Count of Montecristo

🎭 Bonapartiste Edmond Dantès. What if the false accusation signed by Fernand accidentally hit right in the nail, and Edmond had just always been hiding that part of him?

🎭 Edmond finds the treasure. He also finds a dragon, because the mythique creatures apparently weren’t all dead.

🎭 Edmond should have never been able to swim all the way to the shore when escaping the prison. He should have drowned and died in the tempest.

So why didn’t he?

🎭 The world is wrong. And we are right.

This is a dangerously addictive game... and one of our favorites.

(But what about when we’re wrong?)

🎭 Crack Treated Seriously. Edmond had a plan, he really did. He is not sure where everything went wrong and how his count of Montecristo persona became your friendly neighbour, nor why all the elders of Paris suddenly bring him veggies every morning nagging about his health, but it happened. (To make things worse, he didn’t even have time to enfold the first part of his revenge plan that Danglar is in prison for fraud, Villefort found dead in an alley with its murderer running, and Mercedes officially announced she would divorce Fernand now that Albert was finally old enough).

Or any variant with that ’crack treated seriously, can’t do my revenge bcs karma did it for me before i could move’ vibe.

🎭 Mercedes knocks out Edmond so that he cannot go to the duel with Albert (since he apparently intend to die there if he doesn’t kill her son). Thus the duel happen in absentia.

🎭 Ghost!Edmond (die hitting rocks during his escape from If castle bcs the jailors threw him ‘too close’, or shot?)

Can be crack as ghost!Edmond go annoy Fernand all day, and angst with him *haunting* in revenge.

Scum Villain Self Saving System

� During earlier canon, Tianlang-jun decides on an impulse to raid the sect to bring back his son (who knows why, he sure won't raise him XD). While he is at it (and since he is in a need of a babysitter) he also kidnaps Shen Yuan. Who would like to know what he did for the plot to change so much (and not die by son or father hands)

 

Or, alternatively, said kidnapping happens while Luo binghe is in the cliff thingy bcs Shen yuan found a certain snake much earlier than canon.

🎋 Abuse of the power of the magic blood by creator choice of demon (amazing traumatising body control plot device, really, the potential it has to make everything worse—)

Very dark road: Luo binghe or Tianlang-jun force Shen Yuan to kill everyone from the Cang Qiong Mountain Sect.

🎋 Shen Yuan tries to escape even more determinedly / obviously from Luo Binghe when he returns. More quiproquos (and shenanigans as everyone gets overdramatic?) ensues. (I just love the whole game of hide and chase - can go crack road or heavy angst road).

🎋 Shen Yuan's ’spare body’ was eaten by some plant monster or by a wild creature (a snake? :3), so actually when he dies to escape Luo Binghe, he possesses that monster / creature instead.

🎋 When Shen yuan possesses his body, Shen Jiu gets thrown in the body of a nearby bird instead (or any random animal of your choice). He is. Not happy. About any of this.

But he also can't do much in the shape of a bird (peacock?)

(Bonus if it is his pov. Bonus ++ if he also remembers the ‘original plot’, be it through a mental link with Shen yuan’s mind or bcs he ‘remembers’ the other timeline.)

🎋 Cultivators have wings. Shen Jiu doesn't let anyone touch / preen his. (Or, five times he refused and one time he let someone take care of them type of fic)

🎋 Rather than / after cutting all of Shen's limbs, Luo Binghe decides killing him is too much a mercy (that he doesn’t want him gone). He makes him into a pet instead - by transforming him into a bird (canary? peacock again? Or another animal than a bird actually?)

Kusuriya no Hitorigoto

Pairing/Character: Maomao

🐈‍⬛ Maomao finds a delicious unknown poison and tries it out. This has consequences.

🐈‍⬛ Maomao’s behavior is often compared to that of a cat. What people don’t know is that she is quite literally one. (She may be half bakeneko from her mother's side, and kept the ability to shapeshift.)

🍯 Half mad han yoojin post yoohyun death. The wish stone doesn’t appear, so he never goes back in time. Korea, who already hate him, arrest him. Seseong guild take responsability to banish him from korea, and sung hyunjae take the grieving feral han yoojin with him

(inspired by side story 119 of the novel, see relevant snippet on tumblr here)

🍯Things go wrong. Yoohyun decides to go forward with his plan to ’lock up hyung for his own good’. Now if only Yoojin actually cooperated (but both brothers are equally stubborn).

🍯Sung Hyunjae kidnaps Yoojin for a nice world-tour trip

(He felt it was his turn to have fun, and it’s not like Yoojin would take those holidays by himself, would he?). A surprising amount of people gives Sung the thumbs up after the brief moment of panic ’Yoojin disappeared’ (Yoojin really should take holiday days). Yoojin does not give the thumb up (he want to rest too, for sure! But not now- there is just- so much to do- and not on a world trip with Seasong guild leader!).

🍯When dungeons appeared / instead of them, a mark appeared on people.

’H’ for heroes. ’V’ for villains. ’N’ for normal.

Society rebuilt itself around that. (What they didn’t know, is that those letters are attributed randomly - the tragedy that ensue is a result of people’s own actions, not a predetermined classement)
